| 2010 HUST Summer Session |
The following schedule, based upon our 2009 one, is provided as an example only. The 2010 program may differ somewhat.
I. Students
Class size: 24 - 32 students per class
Student levels:
The majority: medium-level first-year undergraduate or graduate students who are comparatively strong in listening but weak in speaking.
II. Duration:
July 5 - July 23 (Saturdays and Sundays excluded)
Morning: 8:30 ~ 11:40 (20-min-break in between)
Afternoon: 13:30 ~ 16:30 (20-min-break in between)
III. Teaching arrangements:
1. Lessons:
Teachers work in pairs, taking care of two classes. For example,
Teacher 1 8:30 ~ 11:40 Class 1
1:30 ~ 4:30 Class 2
Teacher 2 8:30 ~ 11:40 Class 2
1:30 ~ 4:30 Class 1
* For each day one teacher should prepare 160-minute-long lesson and use it twice (once in the morning & once in the afternoon). Altogether there are 14 days of such regular lessons. The last day is for the students' assessment.
* Teachers are encouraged to base the lessons on freely chosen materials. There is also a textbook called Let's Talk 2 by Leo Jones published by Cambridge University Press for the teachers to use as reference. (The students have the book.) The book is available as soon as the teachers arrive.
* CD attached to the Teacher's Manual contains all the recordings of the book, whereas that of the Student's Book contains only SELF-STUDY exercises marked with a star.
* Full-length entertainment-type videos are not allowed during the lessons. Short clips having to do directly with lesson materials are fine to use.
2. Evenings
At least once a week teachers are free either to join the English Corner or to join the students' movie classes.
V. Classrooms:
All the classrooms are equipped with air-conditioning, computers, CD players and computer projectors. If the teacher has problems in handling the equipment, please consult the TA.Additional text information:
