CHINA VISA PROCESSING
DO NOT FORGET TO SIGN YOUR PASSPORT AND YOUR VISA APPLICATION THE SAME WAY
1. You must have a valid passport that valid for six months after your return date. Check that the passport is signed.
2. You must have at least two blank pages marked “VISA” inside of your passport.
3. For those teaching in China, we have been advised that we no longer need official invitation letters. This, of course, may change. We are planning to ask the Consulate to issue 60-90 day tourist visas which should cover all who will be touring before/after the teaching sessions.
4. Complete the new Visa Application Form (latest version of 4/11/08). None of the previous visa forms will be accepted. Use ONLY this new form. The form is on the website..
5. Photo: You will need one regulation, full face, color passport photo. Nothing else will be accepted. Sign the back of the photo. Do not send home-made photos. They are not acceptable and will be rejected.
6. Time: Allow two weeks for mail delivery and processing of your visa before it is returned to you.
7. Mailing Security: I recommend you use the US Post Office large Priority Mail Cardboard Envelope that you personally drop off at your post office. Inside, you can fold the large cardboard envelope in half or use a smaller Priority mail packet for return mailing. You need to have the return envelope stamped and prepared by the post office for mailing back to you. Note: You can add whatever additional security measures you choose (or not) such as Return Receipt Requested, Registered, to your return mail address.
If you have a large mailer, you may send as many passports as will fit into one mailer. I also like using FedEx with a return, prepaid envelope. Whichever you use, make sure there is a tracking number.
8. DO NOT SEND ANYTHING FROM DHL, FED-EX OR ANY OTHER PRIVATE MAIL COMPANY IF YOU REQUIRE A SIGNATURE. YOU CAN DEIGNATE THAT NO SIGNATURE IS NECESSARY. If Jane is not there to sign for your package, it takes at least three days before its ready to be picked up, and hours of driving to get to the locations where the packet can be picked up. The packets will eventually be returned to you and you will probably miss your visa deadline so don’t use these services with signature required. You are welcome to use anything you like as long as no signature is required. If you have to have a signature, use the US Post Office.
8. Mail your: 1. Passport - signed, 2. Completed and signed Visa Application, 3. a self addressed, stamped envelope for mailing it back to you in the manner you desire – return receipt requested, priority, whatever makes you feel comfortable and large enough to hold your passport, 4. One regulation passport photo signed on the back, and 5. a check in the amount of: $150.00 per person, check made payable to Jane Huang. You do not need to send separate checks if you are paying for more than one visa. One check for all visas per packet is just fine as long as the amount is $150 per person and 7. Mail to:

All visa packets should be in Jane's hands between May1 and May 15 for the July group and between July 1 and July 17 for the September group. It will take about two weeks for processing.
9. You are more than welcome to apply for your visa on your own –but make sure to follow all of the steps set forth, above. Also, be sure that all entry and return dates are correct. The visas will indicate that you must enter China by a certain date. If you aren’t familiar with this process, use Jane.
