YOUR MAIN GOAL IS TO ENGAGE STUDENTS IN CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH.
That is why you are there. Encourage as many conversations as possible. LISTEN AND LET STUDENTS TALK!
Start now to look for ways to engage them in conversational activities -- everything from icebreakers to games to debates to skits and more.
Go to ESL on the computer and find a multitude of activities to use.
ASK FELLOW TEACHERS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. EVERYONE HELPS EVERYONE ELSE!
We will furnish you with an extensive resource guide to help you to plan your activities and effectively manage your classes.
Please do not be judgmental with respect to political or religious discussions. You are a guest in the host country. It is a different culture that you have to adjust to in a hurry. It can be done.
You will find that university students everywhere have the same concerns as do American students, for example, getting a job, relating to their parents, dating, going into the work force, etc.
Your students will want to learn and they will try hard to do so!!!!
Bring pictures of family members. Most students you will meet are very family conscious and really appreciate your sharing with them about your family. Also bring maps of your State, the United States and of China. Show them where you live and they will show you where they live.
Be yourself and enjoy the students. Laugh WITH them not at them.
